
Daily schedules vary by grade band. Below: sample K-1, 2-5, 6-8, and high-school schedules — the rhythms our families actually live by during the school year.
Every VCA Virtual day begins at 7:35 am with devotions and ends with independent learning time. Live class blocks anchor the morning. Afternoons are mostly family-paced.
The schedules below are samples for the Great Hearts Online Classical Live pathway. Flex Mode students follow a similar shape but on their own daily timing. WVS, Individualized, and On Fire pathways have different rhythms; your Academic Coach walks you through the specifics during onboarding.
Live classes Monday through Thursday. Friday is fully asynchronous in the Great Hearts pathway. Daily devotions every weekday.
Live class blocks Mon–Thu, 8:00 am – 12:15 pm. Real-time Socratic instruction. Camera and microphone required.
Daily devotions begin at 7:35 am with the cohort. Wednesday is full chapel together. Friday is prayer and character enrichment.
Independent reading, writing, problem sets, and assignments. Parents partner with the teacher. Pacing varies by family.
Great Hearts Online Friday is fully asynchronous. Catch-up reading, deeper writing, family rhythms, and rest. Many families use it for co-ops and outdoor time.
Each band has its own daily rhythm. K-1 is gentler. High school is more demanding. The center bands are the standard live model.
7:35 devotions. Live reading group + math + story 8:00–10:30. Independent time after. Total live: ~2 hours/day.
7:35 devotions, 8:00 homeroom, 8:30 ELA, 9:25 math, 10:20 fine arts/Latin, 11:15 history/science. Independent learning 12:00–3:00.
Same shape as 2-5 but with daily Latin (6th grade onward), more substantial independent reading, and longer writing assignments.
High school uses a 2-hour block schedule. Humane Letters (2 hours daily), math, science, Latin. AP and electives layered in.
7:35–7:55: Daily devotions / Wednesday chapel. Scripture, prayer, song. 8:00–8:30: Homeroom — attendance, the day's plan, brief teacher check-in.
8:30–9:15: English Language Arts — live Socratic seminar on the day's reading. 9:25–10:10: Mathematics — direct instruction with structured practice. Brief breaks between blocks.
10:20–11:05: Fine Arts or Latin (rotates by day). 11:15 am–12:00 pm: History or Science (alternating days). 12:00 pm–3:00 pm: Independent learning — reading, writing, problem sets, family-led work.
Friday: Fully asynchronous. No scheduled live classes. Catch-up, deeper work, family rhythms, rest.
