Optional Tutoring

One-on-one help, when it’s needed.

Tutoring is not a separate school within the school. It is a coordinated extension of your student’s coaching team — used when there’s a real need, not as a default.

Real Support, Coordinated for Your Family

Tutoring is part of how we care for your scholar.

If your child needs extra help, you have it. Most of the support a family will ever need is already included at VCA Virtual — and where a deeper or specialized resource makes sense, your Academic Coach helps you weigh the options before any cost ever enters the picture.

Your VCA Virtual teachers — including those who deliver our Great Hearts Online classical coursework and our Wisconsin Virtual School coursework — hold regular office hours at no cost. Scholars at risk of falling below grade level are invited into scheduled tutoring sessions before, during, or after school, also at no cost. Special-education scholars receive tutoring services as part of their plan. Several other free routes are built in (more below). Some advanced or specialized add-ons may carry a fee — we’re upfront about that, and we always start with what’s included.

Support Already Included

Four included routes.

Before any conversation about extras, here’s the support that’s already part of the program for every VCA Virtual family — whether your scholar follows our classical pathway (with the Great Hearts Online community), our Wisconsin Virtual School coursework, or our Individualized track.

I

Teacher Office Hours

Every VCA Virtual teacher — in our classical, Wisconsin Virtual, and VCA-taught courses alike — holds regularly scheduled office hours at no cost. Scholars sign up through their course calendar. This is the first stop for any subject question, missed concept, or moment that needs a second look.

II

Scheduled Teacher Tutoring

For scholars at risk of falling below grade level, your VCA Virtual classroom teacher extends an invitation to regularly scheduled tutoring sessions — before, during, or after school — at no cost. Tutoring services are also part of the plan for scholars receiving special-education services.

III

Title Services

Federally funded equitable services available to private-school students through the local public-school district — Title I (academic support), Title III (English learners), and similar programs. Free to qualifying families; your VCA Virtual Academic Coach helps you request services from your resident district.

IV

Academic Coach Arrangements

Your VCA Virtual Academic Coach can often work out additional no-cost support — a focused 1:1 check-in during coach hours, a peer study partnership, or a parent-led at-home plan reviewed weekly. Case by case, but always the first thing we try.

If You Want More Than What’s Included

Additional options, your family’s choice.

If your scholar wants a deeper or specialized resource — or your family simply wants more 1:1 time — here are the next-step options VCA Virtual can coordinate. Some may carry a fee; we walk you through pricing and fit before anything is decided.

Classical Pathway

Specialized classical tutoring

Scholars in our classical pathway are part of the broader Great Hearts Online learning community, which offers additional specialized tutoring beyond the included office hours and invited sessions. Pricing and availability vary by subject; your Academic Coach helps you request what’s currently offered.

Wisconsin Virtual

Skills-support add-ons

For families whose scholars use Wisconsin Virtual School coursework, optional 1:1 sessions are available: Online Skills & Homework Support ($25–$50), Targeted Skills Support ($30–$60), “In Real Time” Live Lessons ($40–$80), and Special Populations / Multilingual support ($40–$80). Per session, family-funded.

SNSP & IEP

Built into the plan

Scholars receiving special-education services have tutoring services included as part of their plan, and SNSP voucher amounts are set by the scholar’s plan and grade level. Talk to admissions for what that looks like for your family.

Private Tutors

Family-arranged

Some families choose to hire a private tutor on their own — for example, a long-form prep relationship outside the school day. Your VCA Virtual Academic Coach is happy to offer general guidance and referrals.

How We Decide Together

We start with what’s already included.

When a family raises a concern, we don’t jump straight to a paid add-on. We start with the included routes — office hours, scheduled tutoring, Title services, the Coach’s own check-ins. That’s enough for the great majority of scholars who ever need extra help.

If a deeper or specialized resource is genuinely the right call, we’ll talk about it openly — what’s available, what it costs, and whether it’s worth it for your scholar. The choice stays with you, and the conversation always begins with what doesn’t cost a dime.

And sometimes the right answer is something else entirely — a schedule change, a different pathway, a parent-led plan, or a conversation with the Faith Coach. The Academic Coach is there to help you tell the difference.

A Real Resource

Used well, tutoring works.

If your student is struggling, talk to your Academic Coach. We'll diagnose the issue and propose the right intervention — tutoring or otherwise.
